Need to know
Time
Niue is 24 hours behind NZST so it is important to understand your travel dates and holiday dates to avoid any misunderstanding.
Drivers License
Niue Driver Licences are required for all drivers of cars, motorbikes, and scooters and can be obtained from the Police Station which is located near the airport on the next business day after your arrival. You can still drive using your current licence until such time as you get your Niuean licence.
Money
Niue uses NZ currency and has a Kiwibank. There are no ATMs on the Island. It is advisable
to bring some NZ$ with you as not all businesses have EFTPOS or credit card facilities.
Personal
It is recommended to bring sun hats, sunscreen, insect repellant and all personnel
medication. There is no pharmacy in Niue.
Car Hire
There is no public transport in Niue so car hire is strongly recommended. The island has a circumference of approximately 65km & transport is needed to visit the snorkelling pools, walking tracks & supermarkets.
Our recommended rentals are 4 x 4 rentals and Heahea Rentals, reasonable rates and very good condition and road-worthy vehicles.
Wifi
For the duration of your stay at Namukulu, we will provide you with a portable Mi-fi unit. This will enable you to always have access to your Wifi on your mobile devices. In the Alofi commercial centre is the Telecom Niue where you will need to go to load money against your Mifi unit. If you fail to return the Wifi unit or damage the unit you will be charged $250 on checkout. Please note Wifi charges in Niue are expensive so we suggest downloading Netflix/movies on your laptop before you leave New Zealand.
Footwear / Clothing / Snorkel gear
It is essential to bring sturdy walking shoes for the many walking tracks. The terrain
underfoot is uneven and can be challenging. The coral reef that surrounds Niue for all
swimming activities requires reef shoes. It is recommended you bring your own snorkelling gear to enjoy the pools and chasms.
Food
All food can be brought onto the island except honey. There are stocked grocery stores and
a supermarket.
The markets ensure you can enjoy local produce, with some fruit vegetables and local crafts.
There are freezers available for your personnel to use at Namukulu Cottages.
Alcohol
Duty-free alcohol can be purchased at the Bonds store in Alofi.
You can enjoy the Namukulu Bar whilst sitting relaxing by the pool in the afternoon at
Namukulu Cottages.
